The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
